Beatrice blew me away when I saw it in college. The unflinching way it confronted the taboo of incest and the casual brutality of the period while maintaining an aura of the poetic continue to fascinate me. It had the kind of impact on me that my mother's readings of the Grimm's Maerchen had as a child. It was that revelatory. It irks me that the film has such a low profile and no region 1 DVD release.
