Anyone who reveres Satantango (how is that not on ANY list of greatest films, foreign or otherwise?), Bullet in the Head (the best "Vietnam film" ever?), Edward Yang, &c. has my interest and respect. So I hope you'll still have a little left for me when I note that I find The Mother and the Whore almost agonizingly unwatchable, and the revulsion begins with that risible title. I get that the trio supposed to be unlovably selfish, attitudinizing, self-justifying, &c., &c. So are many of Tarr's characters across several films and he does infinitely more with them -- and cinema -- than Eustache does there. I confess I've seen nothing else by him, because, per the foregoing, how could I?
