... to the launch of my new site. If I'm fairly late to the digital revolution, I hope to get off the ground running.
For those unfamiliar with my name or work, I’m a Chicago-based writer and critic. I have two specialties, film and sports. I also love literature, architecture, travel, and artists like Zooey Deschanel or Marketa Irglova, who are singers and also jam on an instrument.
My reviews, articles, profiles and essays have appeared in the New York Times, Stop Smiling, LA Weekly, Screen International, Filmmaker Magazine and indiewire.
Since 1989, I have covered every significant international film festival, from Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Sundance, Toronto and New York.
My sports writing is much more localized. From 1994-2004, I wrote about high school sports for the Chicago Tribune. Since 2005, I have written about high school sports for the Chicago Sun-Times. I write a periodic column about the culture of high school basketball here.
Starting Tuesday, I"ll be filing stories on Cannes.
Unless otherwise specified, all material is new and/or previously unpublished.
Comments, criticism and input are all greatly encouraged.
Welcome to the fight. This time, I know our side will win.

Congrats on the launch, Patrick. See you over there. By the way, I hear self-taught radical traditionalists get a 20 percent discount during the festival.
